born c. 1628, , Podgrze, near Krakw, Poland died Dec. 13, 1689, Knigsberg, Prussia [now Kaliningrad, Russia] poet, Polish country squire, trusted courtier of the Polish princely family of Radziwill, and author of a collection of poems entitled Muza domowa (165283; Muse in the Home). When Sweden invaded Poland in 1655, Morsztyn, at the time in military service, lived through the siege of Krakw, and in the second part of his Muza he gave a bitter account of the life of a soldier, as well as accounts of war's aftermath.
