born Jan. 15, 1872, Viborg, Den. died , c. Nov. 25, 1907, Greenland Danish journalist and explorer who led two productive expeditions to Greenland. The explorer's first expedition (190204) yielded information on the languages and customs of the polar Eskimos. The second, on the ship Danmark (190608), had the object of charting the northern coasts of Greenland. Though Mylius-Erichsen and two of his companions, Heg Hagen and Jrgen Brnlund, perished on this venture, his papers were subsequently found by another Danish explorer, Ejnar Mikkelsen, and proved valuable in the mapping of northern Greenland.
