floor covering handwoven in Pao-t'ou, in the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region of China, noted for its high-quality of workmanship and materials. The designs usually consist of landscapes or religious symbols, although horse, stag, lion, and dragon motifs are also used. Pao-t'ous are executed in fine wool dyed blue, brown, red, and beige. The foundation weave is of cotton.
