Meaning of SLOKA in English

(Sanskrit: sound, song of praise, praise, or stanza) chief verse form of the Sanskrit epics. A fluid metre that lends itself well to improvisation, the sloka consists of two verse lines (a distich) of 16 syllables each or four half lines (hemistichs) of 8 syllables each.
