It is known for its Friday markets, for which hundreds of Indians come in from surrounding villages to trade or to worship at the 16th-century church, which was rebuilt after the 1902 earthquake. Coffee, grains, onions, and garlic are the principal products of the area; there is flour milling in the vicinity. Solol lies on the Pan-American Highway, 75 miles (120 km) from Guatemala City. Pop. (1990 est.) 12,201.
