SQUAW VALLEY

world-famous winter sports area in Placer County, eastern California, U.S., just northwest of Lake Tahoe. The focus of a state recreation area, it was the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and has ice-skating facilities, ski lifts, trails and slopes to Squaw Peak (8,960 ft ). Alpine Meadows ski resort is immediately to the south.
