also called Anticona mountain pass of the Cordillera Central of the Peruvian Andes, about 60 mi (100 km) northeast of Lima, through the highest part of which (La Cima), at an elevation of 15,807 ft (4,818 m), passes the main line of the highest standard-gauge railway in the world. The railroad was built to service the lead and zinc mines at La Oroya and Morococha and reaches the pass from the west via the Galera Tunnel, 3,855 ft in length, which emerges at the Ticlio station.
