formerly Fu-hsien, Pinyin Wafangdian, or Fu Xian, city in Liaoning sheng (province), China. The city is situated in the centre of the Liaotung Peninsula and is an important market centre for the agriculture and fruit industry of the area, which specializes in growing apples, pears, and grapes. It has developed industries producing various industrial chemicals as well as fertilizers and insecticides. It also has a small engineering industry and processes oils and fats. It is connected by railway with Chin-chou and Shen-yang (Mukden). Pop. (mid-1980s est.) 50,000-100,000.
