WOLF SNAKE

any of a number of nonvenomous members of the family Colubridae, named for enlarged teeth at the front of both jaws. Southeast Asian wolf snakes are placed in the genera Cercaspis and Lycodon, African species in Lycophidion. The Cape wolf snake (Lycophidion capense), abundant from Egypt to South Africa, is a small, drab species with a metallic sheen and lives chiefly on lizards. The Indian wolf snake (L. aulicus) is a small, brown, nocturnal serpent of southeastern Asia that eats mice, geckos, and lizards.
