APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS

a range of mountains in eastern North America. It runs 1 800 miles (2 900 kilometres) from Newfoundland in Canada to central Alabama in the US. This includes the region of Appalachia and the Allegheny Mountains , the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is the longest in the world with signs for hikers (= people walking for pleasure).
