a city on the coast in the American state of New Jersey . It is popular with tourists and contains many casinos (= gambling clubs) where people can gamble legally. The ‘Miss America’ competition is held there each year. The city has a famous Boardwalk (= a wide path made of wood) along the edge of the sea, and the names of some of its streets were used for the US version of the game Monopoly .
