an old Scottish song about friendship and remembering good times in the past. The title means ‘old long since’. Traditionally, people in Britain hold hands and sing it at midnight on New Year’s Eve. It was already a traditional song when Robert Burns wrote the version that most people sing now. Many people know the beginning of the song:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to min’ (= mind)?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!
