a group of seven people who protested violently against the Vietnam War in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic Party convention (= national meeting to select a candidate for President). Their leaders were Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin. They were arrested and put on trial, and five of them, including Hoffman and Rubin, were found guilty. A judge later said that the trial had been unfair, and they did not go to prison.
