I . Alistair Cooke

(1908–2004)

a US broadcaster and journalist, born in Britain. He was well known for his BBC radio series Letter from America , in which he described US life to the British. The series ran from 1946 until his death. He also appeared on US television to talk about British life, and to introduce British plays in the Masterpiece Theater series.

II . Sam Cooke

(1935–64)

a US singer and writer of soul music. His best-known song was You Send Me (1957). Cooke was killed by a woman who was judged innocent because she was defending herself from him.
