Meaning of DARLING in English

(1815–42)

a young English woman who helped her father, a lighthouse keeper, to rescue nine sailors during a storm off the coast of Northumberland in 1838. Her name is still remembered in that part of Britain, and her father’s boat is now in a museum in the village of Bamburgh, where she was born.
