a novel (1850) by Charles Dickens . David, a boy in Victorian (1) England, is sent to London for a life of hard work and poverty. He becomes a successful writer, but marries a childish woman, Dora, without realizing that another woman, Agnes, really loves him. Agnes’s father is cheated out of his money by his employee, Uriah Heep , but in the end they are saved by David’s friend Mr Micawber . Dora dies, and David marries Agnes. The novel is partly based on Dickens’s own life.
