a novel (1886) by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson . It is about a doctor who is interested in the good and evil parts of human nature and invents a drug that can separate them. When he tries the drug himself, he temporarily becomes an evil version of himself, Mr Hyde. His further experiments lead to disaster because he finds it more and more difficult to return to his original self. There have been several film versions of the story.
