the 34th President of the US (1953–61) and a famous general. His popular name was Ike. He was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in World War II and directed the Allies’ plans for D-Day . As a Republican (1), Eisenhower was strongly against Communism but he ended the Korean War . He is also remembered for sending US soldiers into Little Rock , Arkansas , to protect African-American children in white schools. He was a popular president, known for his friendly smile and mild manner.
