(1890–1969) a US politician in the Republican Party, who was President of the US from 1953 to 1961. Eisenhower was a general in the US army during World War II, and he became the commander of all the Allied forces in Europe, leading the attack on ↑ D-Day in 1944. He was a popular President, and people informally called him Ike.
