a large cave on the island of Staffa in the Hebrides , Scotland. It is well known for its large rock columns. Many poets and musicians have visited the cave and written about it, but it is best known as the subject of Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture (1832), which is also known as Fingal’s Cave .
