Meaning of GARDEN CITY in English

one of several British towns built in the first half of the 20th century, including Letchworth and Welwyn Garden City . They were planned to encourage ordinary people to move from crowded cities and to give them a better standard of living, and consist of simple, modern houses, shops and businesses surrounded by gardens, trees and parks. The garden city movement was started by Sir Ebenezer Howard and was followed by the idea of new towns in the second half of the 20th century.
