a large US suspension bridge (= a bridge hanging from steel cables supported by towers at each end) across the Hudson River from Manhattan (1) in New York City to Fort Lee, New Jersey . It is a ‘double-decker’, with one road above the other, and the length of the main section is 3 500 feet/1 067 metres. The bridge was completed in 1931.
