a US film actor. His films have included American Gigolo (1980), An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), Pretty Woman (1990), Primal Fear (1996) and Chicago (2002). Gere has been active in the campaign in support of the people of Tibet and their religious leader, the Dalai Lama.
