a US author of popular novels about lawyers. He was formerly a lawyer in a small town in Mississippi . His books, many of which have become films, include A Time to Kill (1988), The Firm (1989), The Chamber (1994) and The Partner (1997). Grisham, a member of the Democratic Party , was also elected to the Mississippi State Legislature (1983–90).
