Meaning of HIPPODROME in English

a name common to many places of public entertainment in Britain, especially theatres, cinemas and concert halls. The Hippodrome in Leicester Square , London, originally a variety theatre, is a famous nightclub. Several theatres in the US have also had the name. The most famous was the New York Hippodrome (1905–39), where Harry Houdini performed.
