an English artist. He became famous in the early 1990s with a series of works consisting of dead animals in glass cases full of formaldehyde (= a special liquid that preserves things). He won the Turner Prize in 1995 with Mother and Child Divided (Cow and Calf) . Some people find his work offensive.
