HOBBIT

a book (1937) written by J R R Tolkien . The book is set in the imaginary world of Middle-Earth. In the book, hobbits are small, friendly creatures with big feet. The main character, a hobbit called Bilbo Baggins, becomes involved in an adventure involving dragons, dwarves and wizards. Many of the same characters appear again in the book The Lord of the Rings (1954–5). The Hobbit is popular with both children and adults in many countries around the world.
