any of the group of hotels owned by the US company Intercontinental Hotels Group, the largest of its kind in the world, with hotels in 70 countries. The first Holiday Inn opened in Memphis , Tennessee, in 1952. Holiday Inn is the title of a 1942 film with music by Irving Berlin about a hotel that only opens on public holidays. The song White Christmas was written for the film.
