INAUGURATION DAY

( in the US ) the day every four years when the new President , elected in November, officially takes power. The Inauguration ceremonies are always on 20 January in Washington, DC . The President says the Oath of Office, and the Vice-president does the same. The President then gives the Inaugural Address , a speech about his plans. This is followed by a long parade along Pennsylvania Avenue . In the evening there are official Inaugural balls (= formal events at which people dance).
