Meaning of JACOBI in English

(1938– )

an English actor on stage, in films and on television. He became famous after playing the Roman emperor Claudius in the television series I, Claudius (1976) and has since played the title part in the television series Cadfael (1994–6), based on books by Ellis Peters (real name Edith Pargeter 1913–95). Cadfael is a medieval monk who solves crimes. Jacobi has acted in many productions and films of Shakespeare’s plays. He was made a knight in 1994.
