(1914–2002)

an English theatre director. She began her career in the 1930s directing plays for working-class audiences. She formed a group called Theatre Workshop and developed new ways of presenting plays at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, in London. Her productions included A Taste of Honey (1959) and Oh What a Lovely War (1963) both of which were later made into films.
