a US film actor who began her career as a dancer on Broadway . MacLaine won an Oscar for Terms of Endearment (1983), and her other films include The Apartment (1960), Sweet Charity (1969) and Steel Magnolias (1989). She is the sister of the actor Warren Beatty .
