a well-known Hollywood film company established in 1924. In its early days it was especially famous for its musical films, made with great style. The company employed many famous US actors. At the start of every MGM film there is a roaring lion and the words ‘More stars than there are in the heavens’. The company has been sold several times since the 1970s. It owns a large group of cinemas and the MGM Grand Hotel and Theme Park, completed in 1993 in Las Vegas .
