(1940– )

a US golfer who won twenty major tournaments (= competitions) between 1962 and 1986, a world record. These included the British Open three times, the US Open (1) four times and the US Masters Tournament six times, more than any other golfer. The popular name for him is the ‘Golden Bear’ and in 1988 he was voted the ‘Golfer of the Century’.
