I . Beatrix Potter

(1866–1943)

an English writer of children’s books about the adventures of animals, including Peter Rabbit , Tom Kitten, Benjamin Bunny, Jemima Puddle-Duck, and many others. She also painted the illustrations for the books, which are still popular with children today. Though born in London, she spent most of her later life in the Lake District .

II . Dennis Potter

(1935–94)

an English writer of television plays, many of them broadcast in several parts. He is well known for his dramatic stories about relationships, often set in the recent past, in which the characters often sing popular songs of the period. He is considered one of the most important television writers of his time. His best-known plays include Pennies from Heaven (1978), The Singing Detective (1986) and Lipstick on Your Collar (1993).

III . Harry Potter™

the main character in a series of very successful books by British author J K Rowling (1965– ), including Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . Harry is a boy with magical powers (a young wizard ) and the books are about his adventures at his special school (Hogwarts) . Although the books were written for children, they are popular with adults too. There are now three very successful films.
