the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court since 1986. Before that he was the Chief Legal Counsel for the US Department of Justice (1969–71) and a judge on the Supreme Court (1971–86). He was appointed Chief Justice by Ronald Reagan , and under his leadership the court has become more conservative.
