I . Gordon Richards
(1904–86)
an English jockey. He was champion jockey 26 times during his career (1920–54), winning 4 870 races. He was made a knight in 1953.
II . I A Richards
( Ivor Armstrong Richards 1893–1979)
an English writer and critic of literature. He taught at Cambridge and Harvard universities, and with C K Ogden (1889–1957) developed the idea of basic English . His best-known book is Principles of Literary Criticism (1924). He also published several collections of poetry.
