Meaning of RICHMOND in English

1. a town in North Yorkshire, England. It is famous for its castle, built in the late 11th century on a hill above the town, and its theatre, opened in 1788.

2. a town on the River Thames in the borough of Richmond-upon-Thames in London, England. It is close to two large parks, Richmond Great Park and Kew Gardens . King Henry VII built a palace at Richmond in the late 15th century, but only a small part of the building now remains.

3. the capital city of the US state of Virginia . It is a port on the James River. Patrick Henry made his famous ‘liberty or death’ speech there. Richmond was the capital city of the Confederate States during the Civil War and was destroyed by US soldiers in 1865. Its products include machinery and processed tobacco, food and wood.
