a US saxophone player who helped to develop the ‘hard-bop’ style of jazz . In his early career he was influenced by Thelonious Monk . His albums include Bebop Professors (1949), Sonny Meets Hawk (1963), Nucleus (1975) and Plus 3 (1995). Rollins was chosen for the Jazz Hall of Fame in 1973.
