a US actor and singer known for her clear, strong voice. She became a star in the Broadway musical play Funny Girl (1964) and won an Oscar for its film version (1968). She won another for Evergreen , the song she wrote for her film A Star is Born (1976). Her many successful songs include People (1964) and The Way We Were (1973).
