I . Daley Thompson
(1958– )
a British athlete, the son of a Nigerian father and a Scottish mother. He was the greatest athlete of all time in the decathlon, a contest involving ten different events. He won gold medals in the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, in the World Championships in 1983, in the European Championships in 1982, and in the Commonwealth Games in 1978, 1982 and 1986. He also broke the world record four times.
II . Emma Thompson
(1959– )
an English actor. After early work on television she won an Oscar for her performance in the film Howards End (1992) and in 1995 directed her own version of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility . Her other films have included The Remains of the Day (1993), Carrington (1995) and Primary Colors (1998). She has often acted with Kenneth Branagh , to whom she was formerly married.
