the name given by US soldiers during World War II to Iva Ikuko Toguri d’Aquino (1916– ). She was an American citizen who broadcast on a Japanese radio programme telling US soldiers to refuse to fight. After the war, she was sent to a US prison until 1956, and President Ford gave her a pardon (= official notice forgiving somebody) in 1977.
