a British company formed in 1970 by Richard Branson . It began as a record company, producing and selling records through its own shops. In 1984 it introduced an airline service, Virgin Atlantic. The company now offers many other products and services, and sells music, games and books in its Virgin Megastores. Since 1996 it has also operated some train services in Britain.
