WOUNDED KNEE

a small river in the US state of South Dakota where US soldiers killed more than 200 Native-American men, women and children of the Sioux people on 29 December 1890. This was the final major battle of the Indian wars . In 1973 members of the American Indian Movement occupied the village there for over two months, demanding that the US Senate take action to help Native Americans.
