XEROX

a large US company that produces copying and printing machines, as well as scanners (= devices that copy documents, etc. onto a computer screen) and faxes. Its name is based on the process of ‘xerography’ (meaning ‘dry writing’) which the company developed. In Asia and Australia Xerox works with the Fuji company as Fuji Xerox. People sometimes use the word ‘xerox’ as a noun meaning any photographic copy and the verb ‘to xerox’ meaning ‘to make a photographic copy of something’.
