ILYAP'A

[Inca] Ilyap'a was the Incan weather god. He was one of the more popular Incan deities. His holiday, St. James Day, was July 25. His name meant "thunder and lightning", and he drew rain water from the Milky Way, which he kept in a jug. When there was not enough rain, people would tie up black dogs, and let them starve. They would keep them there until Ilyap'a gave pity on them, and sent rain. He was thought of as a man with a club and stones in his hands. He was also pictured as a man in shining clothes.
