MILU


Meaning of MILU in English

[Polynesian] 'Owner of the Land of the Spirits'. The Hawaiian god of the land of the dead. The abode of the dead is called Lua-o-Milu. The dead know what the living are doing, but not vice versa. They have the power to turn the living into stone simply by staring at them. Some spirits, those with strong wills, may came back to the earth, and also the living may visit the underworld. During their stay down there they should not eat anything, lest they have to stay there forever.
