[Other] "Small". In Hebrew, Saul. He was born at Tarsus in Cilicia, of Benjamite parents, about the beginning of the 1st century. He was a Pharisee in faith, and a tent-maker by trade. He studies law with Gamaliel at Jerusalem. Before he was converted (near Damascus), he persecuted early Christians. Later he carried the gospel to Asia Minor, Greece, and Rome. Paul is the author of fourteen epistles, amplifying the Christian faith.
