GRASSLAND


Meaning of GRASSLAND in English

An area, such as a prairie or meadow, of grass or grasslike vegetation. More specifically, grasslands constitute a geographical region dominated by shrubs and grasses, receiving 10 to 30 inches of rain annually. Alpine Grasslands are in cool, high-elevation areas. Temperate Grasslands, called Prairie (North America), Pampas (South America), Steppe, (Asia), or Veldt (South Africa), are found in regions with moderate temperatures. Tropical Grasslands, also called Savannas, are found in warmer climates. Also see Biome.
