SEEDBANKS

Refers to the large number and diversity of dormant seeds of plant species that exist within the soil. The seeds may exist within the soil for years before they germinate under the proper moisture, temperature, or light conditions. Within marsh soils, this seedbank helps to maintain above-ground plant diversity and can also be used to rapidly establish marsh plants within a newly constructed stormwater marsh.
